The Wall Street Journal (registration required) has an article explaining Microsoft’s new plans for restructuring. Microsoft has always been a favorite target and is notoriously – though perhaps unfairly – known as the technology king that is not loyal to its subjects.
Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, wants the company to be “more agile, faster moving” and is feeling the heat from competition like Sony, Google, Yahoo, Apple, and Linux. The three new divisions of Microsoft are platforms, products, and services (Windows & MSN); business (Office), and entertainment and devices (Xbox).
We shall see if the ugly duckling will be able to turn its 60,000 employee operation into something more capable of competing with its nimble opponents.
